GREAT NEWS FOR THE NEW YEAR !!!
WILDLIFE AWARDS FOR DORSET ROAD ALLOTMENTS At last. The news we have been waiting for. Dorset Road Allotments have been awarded just over £8600 by LOTTERY AWARDS FOR ALL, to develop our wildlife area into a fully functioning wildlife garden with pond, bird hide and native wildflowers. A year of hard work lies ahead, but we are sure that there are many potential willing helpers waiting on the sidelines.
If you would like to be involved in the project, just let Chris, Robin or Clive know. All are welcome whether you have a little time to spare or a lot. We will need to help with landscaping the pond area (we are hiring a digger for the pond), sowing seeds, and growing plants, putting up fencing and notices and a myriad other jobs. Your help is vital!!
At the end of this we should have a wonderful wildlife area that can be used by us, our local schools and other organisations to learn more about wildlife.
WEBSITE FOR DORSET ROAD ALLOTMENTS . COMING SOON
Soon you will be able to find out about us, and what is going on by logging on to our website. This is being run by one of our members, Jeannette Henderson. She hopes to have this up and running by January 2007.
If you have an e-mail address and would like to receive any correspondence by email, leave your email address in the shop. We will keep you posted on this and publicise our website address when it is up and running.
Finally, Dorset Road has been entered for a series being run by UKTV STYLE about allotments in Britain. If we are successful we could be one of nine sites around the country and if we should be chosen as the best, we would win a prize to the value of £2000 to be spent on site. They are looking for sites with good community links, a commitment to recycling, wild life friendly and with members growing their own food and having a good time. We think we will make it into the final nine.
UPCOMING EVENTS SUN FEBRUARY 11 TH 2007 . Volunteer Day.We will be demolishing the old buildings at the top end of the site, whatever the weather throws at us. This area will be then made into a second car park. A lot of big strong helpers will be required. Refreshments including lunch will be provided. Please speak to Chris to volunteer.
MAY 13th 2007. Our annual open day.
JUNE 24th 2007. Open garden day in support of St. Christopher.s Hospice. Details of these last two dates will follow in the spring.
